Oignons
Lyrics
Oignons (Copyright Jim Ferrie 2004)

From the Café Berger, in the middle of town
I ordered a drink, at a table sat down
Quietly waiting for them, who knows when?
They should?ve arrived by now, but, then again?

Gauloise, café, cognac, quotidien
I watched her approach from the banks of the Seine

Ever so casually making her way

Skin tanned and lovely, she pulled back her hair
With basket in hand she set off for the square
Market-stall stallion, he?s pride of them all
Picks up his onions and heads from the stall

He said, ?I?m a poor man, I?m sure you?ve been told,
But my onions are ripe and they?re your to behold?

Ever so casually making his way
Solid intention, he targets his prey
Supremely confident
Seemingly nonchalant
?Come try my onions, sweet lady, this way?

?Si tu veut pas mes oignons acheter
Alors, moi, j?habite juste au coin, c?est trés pré
Allons-y, chez moi et deshabillons
Et on peut regarder mes beaux oignons?

Through steely-blue eyes she stared at him cold
Then suddenly warmed to his manner so bold
Knowingly, smiling, he showed her the way
Climbing the stairs, business done for the day

Ever so casually making his way
Solid intention, they?re going to play
Supremely confident
Seemingly nonchalant
?Viens ma Cherie, par ici, come this way?

Gauloise, café, cognac, quotidien
Later I watched her walk back to the Seine
Carefree she plays with her hair ?long the way
Go loves a tryer, it?s true what they say

From the Café Berger in the middle of town
I ordered another and stayed sittin? down.

Bonne Nuit, tout le monde
