On a hill overlooking the glistening sea
A young man sat down reclining right beside me
He spoke to me without words
And we both understood
And I was as one with him for what seemed to be, for me anyway, a fleeting moment
And that feeling has remained, for no other being has ever touched me
In such a way as he, that young man
Possessed as he was of the gifts of
Knowledge and wisdom of countless ages
And yet deep down, I felt his sadness
I was young then and many moons, traders and invaders have come and gone
And as I grew, I reached out in many directions
Twisting and turning this way and that
Trying to find him again until I became old and bent and crooked
Only to find he has always been here
Beside me
Many passers-by still speak his name
Though few choose to really know him
Like I do
I'm still here overlooking the shimmering sea
My name is Olive
Sit beneath my branches, share my fruit
And just be
